My advice about getting recommenders

I got recommendations from my chemistry teacher, my AP calc AB teacher, and my band director. I actually got to read the band director's letter, and it seemed great at the time, but it turned out he wrote basically the same thing for everyone. I thought he might know me "personally" the best, but I don't think he really did. I liked my chem and AP calc teachers a lot, but once again, I don't think they really knew me.
