I first learned about Vassar by reading a Princeton Review book highlighting the best 379 colleges. After researching and learning more about the campus and academics I really found myself in love with this school. While looking into schools, I kept in mind a certain set of criteria, all of which I feel like can be found at Vassar...
“Para po sa tabi! (Please pull over!)”
But the jeepney driver couldn’t hear me over the bass. “Dugz, dugz, dugz,” the speakers went, causing the floor and seats to vibrate. With its purple and green ceiling lights blinking, the long vehicle sped along like a moving disco, halting every 20 seconds before speeding away again at 60 km/hr...
I often wonder how soccer coaches can manage to yell as much as they do. It is as though every game is the World Cup Final, and every call is a controversy that requires the input of each coach. As a soccer referee, I had to learn quickly that there are rarely games in which everyone is satisfied with the quality of refereeing...
“I'll never get into the ivy league now. At this rate, I probably won't even get into Vassar.”-Lisa Simpson. When I was in elementary school, I remember watching TV at night with my family when The Simpsons came on. It was there that I first heard of a school named Vassar, and at the time, I remember thinking “Wow, this must not be a very good school if an eight-year-old character is badmouthing it.”..
I had the unfortunate experience of living in Alberta City at the time of the April 27th 2011 tornado; I know that at 14 years old, many do not consider people as children, but as Edna St. Vincent Millay put it, "Childhood is not from birth to a certain age and at a certain age/The child is grown, and puts away childish things./Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies."..
As someone who aspires to not only improve myself, but the world, I firmly believe Marist is for me. There may be seven billion individuals on the planet, but it only takes one to better the lives of millions...
To me, college is a four year metamorphosis in which I can focus on exploring my interests, striving to reach my highest potential, and ultimately transforming into a community, national, and even global leader. I believe NYU can supply me all the tools I need to construct a sturdy foundation on which I can rise up and conquer my goals...
During my freshman year of high school I stumbled upon an online collection of street photography that piqued my curiosity. Through a single image, these photographs seemed to express the essence of each subject in a fashion I had never seen before. The blog was Humans of New York, and it inspired me to pick up my first camera and begin capturing my surroundings...
When I was younger, people chided me for being pessimistic. It was my sincere belief that there were no rewards to be reaped from a life here on earth. I was bored, unhappy, and apathetic. War, injustice, environmental collapse, the mean thing X said to me the other day-it all made me see the world as a tumultuous and unpleasant place...
I'll admit that I learned about Vassar relatively late in my college search. I had already applied to some local schools, but was discontented with the mediocre academic reputation each of them had. A couple of months ago in math class, I overheard some of my classmates discussing the upcoming graduation year...
