My summer job this past summer was a lab assistant at an OSU Biomedical Engineering lab. I worked closely with a gradstudent all summer to do research on sensors detecting proteins indicative of organ rejection after transplant. I learned how toplan and run an experiment that would stand up under scrutiny, read and learn from current research journals, and writescientific grants..
In my childhood memories, COSI Columbus, the local hands-on science center, was a magical place that was full of exciting and enticing activities. The building is full of interactive exhibits and activities that range in topic from scientific inquiry to inventing and innovation and everything in between that fascinated my childhood imagination. As I grew older, COSI grew into something more than my magical childhood playground when I began volunteering at the age of twelve. Now, almost five years and 1400 volunteer hours later, I realize that volunteering at COSI was one of the best decisions I have made – at COSI I have been able to grow into a confident leader and show others the magic of discovery...

When I walked into my first volleyball practice I didn’t know that I was about to start a journey that would change me profoundly. I still remember everything from that day, down to the number of the court I was placed on and the lime green frog t-shirt that I wore. I fell in love on that first day, from then on talking, dreaming, breathing volleyball...
Hi Roomie!
I can’t believe this dream is finally becoming a reality. Soon we’ll be dining at the Axe and Palm and cheering on the football team at Stanford Stadium—Go Cardinal! I’m so glad I’ll have someone to share these great experiences with over the next year. But first, let me tell you a little bit about me...
My family situation, though sadly not unique, has forced me to face some of the dirtiest parts of the world and to push myself above them. My parents divorced when I was seven, leaving me in a home with a working mother and an abusive stepfather. I had to learn how to take care of myself as well as my little sister when I should have been playing on the swing set...
The best part about me is undoubtedly my compassion for others. No matter what activity I am involved with, my motivation is focused more toward helping other people than toward myself. Because it is such an integral part of who I am, it has touched all parts of my life, from my family to my friends to my hobbies and extracurriculars...
Blue aliens and three-eyed monsters surrounded me from all sides. I sat up with a jolt and shook my brother until he woke up to save me. When I had finally finished rambling about my terrible nightmares, my brother gave me some of the best advice I have received in my whole life. He said, “Whenever you have a bad dream, just close your eyes super tight and imagine that sugar-plum fairies are battling the aliens and monsters with rainbows and chocolate squirt guns. You control your own dreams, and the fairies will always win. Just remember that.” Maybe I have over-thought his half-awake words, but I now look at the world with the same imaginative eyes that I use to make my dreams better...
During those long winter months, I was cold towards her and only did things for her because of my polite upbringing. I avoided conflict. When she would insult me or my friends, I would sit passively and wait for her anger to pass. I was a turtle, stuck in my shell waiting until I grew comfortable enough in my surroundings to emerge and cope with Lada...
I have always loved talking and learning about the universe and space, and wanted to be an astronaut for most of my life. When I was a freshman, I begged my school to let me take advanced physics in addition to chemistry, which was required for all sophomores. My science teacher shook his head in amused incredulity when I made my request, and warned me that I would change my mind, but reassured me that if it was too much (which he knew it would be), I could simply drop the class...
Moshe is driving in Jerusalem. He’s late for a meeting and he’s looking for a parking place, and can’t find one. In desperation, he turns towards heaven and says: “God, if you find me a parking place, I promise that I’ll eat only Kosher, respect Shabbas and all the holidays…” Miraculously, a place opens up just in front of him. He turns his face up to heaven and says, “Don’t bother, God, I’ve just found one…”..
